Level 5, 15 Credits (use in BDiv or Grad Dip Th)
The History of the Early Church course unit is designed to provide students with an overview and general understanding of the early centuries of Christian history. In this course we study the early history of the Church established by Christ, focusing on the challenges that the Christians of this period faced as they attempted to understand and live out their faith.

The History of the Church in the Middle Ages course unit is designed to provide students with an accurate understanding of the key aspects of medieval Church history within its broader social, cultural and political settings, enabling them to appreciate a wider historical context surrounding their other theological studies. A fascinating exploration of the development of the Church in the Middle Ages, as she sought to spread the Gospel message to the diverse cultures and nations of Europe, eventually uniting them under the banner of Christianity.
H2010 Medieval Christian Experience
Stage 2 of a level 7 award (BDiv or Grad Dip Th) 15 credits
This course examines the rich diversity that marks the medieval articulation of the Christian vision. The artistic and devotional inheritance of the Middle-Ages is set within the context of the Medieval Church’s urgent need for institutional and theological reform.
H7350 The Reformers and the Reformation
Level 7, 15 Credits (use in BTh or Grad Dip Th)
The Reformers and the Reformation course unit introduces students to the European Reformations of the sixteenth century as a development in history of universal importance. It also introduces students to the leading figures, theological concerns and key events of the period, and helps them to recognise the complexity of interpreting events shaped by differing religious, economic, social and political contexts.
H7383 New Zealand Catholics – Their Story
Level 7, 15 Credits (use in BTh or Grad Dip Th)
The New Zealand Catholics course unit provides a survey of the history of the Catholic Church in New Zealand and a context for other theological studies relating to the New Zealand Church. An exploration of the history of the Church in NZ, from the struggles of the early Marist Missionaries, as they sought to bring the Gospel to the Maori people, to the challenges faced by the local church today
