Purpose

Christian spirituality, or the experience of integrating God in everyday life and in prayer, is at the heart of Religious Education. This course will provide students with the opportunity to explore the meaning of Christian spirituality; practical suggestions to enhance the place of prayer and liturgy in the life of a Catholic school community; and the opportunity to examine the impact of faith development on the growth and development of the spirituality of children and/or adolescent in the context of a Catholic School in Aotearoa New Zealand. 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Analyse the meaning of spirituality, images of God and prayer from within the Christian tradition
  2. Identify Fowlers Six Stages of Faith Development and demonstrate the implications of these within the school setting
  1. Create and plan different ways of praying with children/adolescents for use in both every day practice and a special occasion within the school setting.
